Content :

This course is run as the HSE approved Emergency First Aid at Work course, with additional topics pertinent to the school environment.

The minimum course content is specified by the HSE. If you have topics specific to your environment you would like included, just let us know

Assessment :

There is no formal assessment for this course. The tutor will assess each student during the course, ensuring that the information is fully understood

Certification : Certificate is valid for 3 years and is registered with the HSE.

The HSE does recommend annual refresher courses to keep skills sharp. See below for details of how you might qualify for our FREE refreshers

Who should take this course? :

This is suitable for anyone who is to be a designated first aider in a low hazard workplace where the risk assessment determines that the more in-depth First Aid at Work course is not needed.

What do I need to host this course? :

A room big enough to seat your students, along with some space for the practical exercises. We like to use a data projector and whitescreen, along with a flipchart, to aid understanding. We can supply this equipment ourselves.

Cost :

Up to 12 students, £395

Up to 6 students, £295 (Please check for availability in your area)

Price is exclusive of vat, but inclusive of course manual, materials and certification

FREE ANNUAL REFRESHER :

We have devised a mixed media refresher course, which can be taken online, except for the practical element. This is included in the price of this course. There is a small charge of £60 for the practical skills check. The usual price for a refresher course is £325(12), £195(6)

Real Life CPR!

Found this video recently. Although it shows the old 15:2 compression to rescue breath ratio, it also shows the difference an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) can make.

CPR Update

You may have heard me mention before that I fully expect the new Resuscitation Council guidelines, due later this year, to come out in favour of Continuous Compression CPR. That is, not stopping compressions to give rescue breaths.

I have just found this video on Youtube which demonstrates this very well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5huVSebZpM

Remember that at the moment, the official line is still to give 30 compressions to 2 rescue breaths, but if you are unable, or unwilling, to give rescue breaths, then just give continuous compressions. This does not apply to children, or victims of drowning, as they are unlikely to have enough oxygen in their systems.

Finally, a word about youtube videos. I have watched quite a few now and some of them show very poor technique. Be careful not to believe everything you see on the "tube".
